What is Modifier 79?
Modifier 79 is used when the same physician performs a procedure during the postoperative period that is completely unrelated to the original surgery. The modifier tells the payer that the second procedure is independent of the first and should be reimbursed separately.
Unlike Modifier 78, reporting Modifier 79 begins a new global surgical period.
